∆ On November 5, 1990 twenty-one ambitious young women, led by Laura Hiza, formed a bond of friendship, love, and togetherness ; the ideals of a social sorority. This union was known as the local chapter of Gamma Delta Theta. Immediately, these founders began the search for a strong national Fraternity. Finally, the decision had come between Chi Omega and Delta Delta Delta Fraternities.
∆ The sorority (then two pledge classes stronger) chose Delta Delta Delta and on Nov. 14, 1992 the Gamma Mu chapter was installed at Lafayette College. This was quite an affair with many prominent national representatives on hand to initiate the chapter members and install alumnae honors on previous Gamma Delta Theta members.
∆ Gamma Mu's first home was at 623 Parsons Street where six sisters resided over the course of two years. In the fall of 1993 Gamma Mu made its home in the third floor of Farber Hall. This breakthrough allowed twenty-one sisters to live together instead of only three. Finally, in the fall of 1994 Gamma Mu settled into its present home in Two West Campus (the former house of the Nu Chapter of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity).
∆ The chapter has thrived and Two West Campus has become home to a dynamic group of young women, with 75 active collegian members in the 2009-2010 school year.
